A special NAIDOC week cover for this week's Like A Version..
It's NAIDOC week, a celebration of the sixty thousand years (give or take a few) of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in this country. It's a week to give thanks and respect, and also take pride in how Indigenous culture and practices have shaped, and continue to shape, our national identity.
Triple J commemorated NAIDOC week with a very special Like A Version featuring Mildura MC, Philly. He highlights the fact that this age-old culture that still flourishes in modern day Australia shouldn't only be celebrated by the Indigenous mob, but by all Australians - whether you're black, white, yellow or purple. Fittingly, the boys cover Three Little Birds, a Bob Marley song that's packed full of emotion and promotes a simple yet tender message - every little thing is gonna be alright. It's guys like these who have the ability to influence the younger generations, Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike.
I'd probably just sum it up with the following lines from Philly himself: Happy NAIDOC week - go out and celebrate this wonderful culture we've been gifted.
