Progressive metalcore heavyweights Northlane have just announced the details for the release of their third full length Node. It will be the Sydney-based five-piece’s first album since the addition of new vocalist Marcus Bridge in November last year, and based on the three tracks we’ve been spoilt with so far (Rot, Ra, Obelisk); Node promises to explore plenty of exciting and previously uncharted terrain for the band.
Along with the announcement of Node earlier this week, the band also released a video for huge new track Obelisk. It might take a few old-school Northlane fans some getting used to the notable increase in clean vocals on the new material, but Bridge has a seriously impressive set of pipes and his commanding cleans really flesh out the massive new sound that the band appears to be aiming for. The instrumentals on Obelisk are as impressive as ever before, with frenetic drumming and intense layers of guitar work constructing an epic soundscape from start to end.
Although it’s unlikely that Northlane are ever going to write anything as heavy or as hectic as their previous albums in Discoveries and Singularity, fans should be willing to at least hear Node out before making a call on where this band is headed, I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised.
