GoldlinkThe track’s already at two million plays on Soundcloud, now enigmatic DMV rapper GoldLink's Sober Thoughts, a meloldic, hazy number that came out in May last year, on his well-received debut album from last year The God Complex, gets a racy visual accompaniment. GL's clips for his singles When I Die and Ay Ay were both super-fresh, and this video continues his impressive visual output thus far.
Goldlink, whose been carving a name for himself with his left-field, future bounce sounds, brought in Kaytranda for some extra sultry burn on this one. The warm-looking video, shot in a wash of red, is set at a house party in suburban America (the red plastic beer cups were a dead giveaway), and features a number of babin' Bohemian babes in various states of undress, eating Chinese takeaway and messing around with firearms.
It sounds simple, but it's pretty beguiling, mostly thanks to the pro behind the lens - Bengali-born US director Shomi Patwary, whose designed and shot videos for artists from all ends of the fame spectrum - from large budget pop videos for Beyoncé, Pharrell and Lupe Fiasco, to visuals for more indie rappers like Lakutis. He was also the guy behind A$AP Rocky's awesome clip for Multiply, and filmed a mini documentary in Jamaica featuring Skrillex, Diplo and Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend (you can watch it here).
