Ali Barter ProfileFrom the opening shots of Hypercolour there's a real sense of character: a dated Chinese restaurant playing host to a gig with an audience sprinkled full of middle-aged white men who probably think going there is a real cultural experience, on par with visiting the local kebab store. Add in the washed-out manager who micro-manages Barter, even puts on her make-up, and really battles with saying succulent. Then we come onto Hypercolour which dances smoothly between the indie-rock of early Strokes and the more upbeat but sombre tones of Warpaint in Love Is To Die. Videos can often make or break the spell woven by songs but in the case of Hypercolour it adds a sense of realism to the intensity of emotions channelled throughout the song. Right down to your manager being sexist and taking more of the earnings.
