Watch: Ah Trees - Bodies

Say g’day to Ah Trees, their debut single Bodies and its accompanying video. Ah Trees are a quintet out of Perth creating happy-go-lucky rock sounds. They openly idolize work from the likes of The Banshees and The Horrors and this rings true in their music. With a love for twanged guitar chords and echo pedals these boys have made their claim with this first cab off the rank. The tune, as described by frontman Ryan Adair, is all about how teenage romance feels so raw and everlasting when in actual fact it’s often totally insubstantial. Steady drums, reverbs and Ryan’s distorted and somewhat distant vocal seem to dominate the composition.

The clip is a nostalgic one, shot entirely on VHS bringing 90s memories to the fore. I’m immediately reminded of those embarrassing videos your parents used to bring out to kill time with family members when they ran out of things to talk about. Producer Robert Livings explains the boys were looking to recreate a vibe around the scenes you recall from waking up to Rage on Saturday mornings. Personally, I always love to see bands doing things for themselves, in this case shooting a low budget video in a basement that suits the tune perfectly.

Ah Trees consist of Ryan Adair, Tom O'Reilly, Charles Douglas, Harry Livings, and Zach Taylor. These fellas will be playing Amplifier Bar this Saturday 8 August, in support of Tired Lion, who will be launching their Figurine EP.

I envisage this is a track to throw on the morning after that bender that just went a little too long. Pull out a chair, roast in the sun and bliss out to Bodies.
