VIDEO PREMIERE: Soupy LaRue - Teeth

Brisbane-bred five-piece 'punktry' outfit Soupy LaRue have followed up the recent release of struttin' single Teeth by unveiling its appropriately unsettling video clip just in time for Halloween.

Premiering today on theMusic.com.au, the video came to life under the directorial guidance of Greg Maguire and Adam Webb and features frontman Douglas Bjur as an eerie, grinning party host who greets his bandmates, Daniel PyeJotham GarrottDavid Sparkes and Carl Lang, at the door, along with additional guests Cecile BlackmoreCampbell HarrisTalulah Jung and Georgia Knight.

As the song navigates its bouncy-but-dark, off-beat, up-strummed passages, it becomes increasingly apparent that, as the guests partake in fruit, wine and other indulgences — and even engage in a brief dalliance with a smoking apparatus akin to a peace pipe — all is not as it seems at this spooky soiree. As the evening descends into bloody chaos with all the beauty of a renaissance painting, it's hard to tear away from the increasingly crimson-tinged scene.

Soupy LaRue started turning heads back in February with their debut single Next Door Stranger, which introduced eager ears to their magnificently twisted country-punk sounds. Teeth represents an even deeper dive into the rabbit hole, dealing in themes of cannibalism and inspired, they say, by the teachings and tales of the band's namesake, an omnipresent, inhuman being who has wandered the Earth (and other interesting planets) for thousands of years and now imparts his wisdom upon a humble little quintet of musicians in Queensland.

Or so the story goes, if you believe such things.

Even if you don't, it's a damn fine tune, and it's got us plenty excited for the release of their debut EP before the year's out.

Undoubtedly, the boys will be out and about in service of the tunes at some stage in the next few months — best keep an eye on their Facebook page to stay abreast of their upcoming movements.
