The new clip from Melbourne trio My Elephant Ride is trippy, to say the least.
The band teamed up with director Kezia Alexandra for Heels’ music video, who channelled themes of love, gender, sexuality, faith and more, all found throughout their June LP, Beyond The Skin.
“This piece brings up a concept of gender is just an illusion through organic and natural symbolism,” Alexandra said.
“A pilgrimage of genderless souls. Human is a spiritual being that is genderless, yet we are living in a physical form to receive a human experience. The body that we lived in has been viewed through subjective perspective by society, hence it only applies in the so called ‘human viewed’ reality.
“Our spiritual beings are represented as mushroom, the sacred medicine and potion - the bridge between human and spirituality. Mushrooms are also multifunction (for food, potions, even for zero waste packaging) and it grows anywhere by itself.
“Just like our soul, that is adaptable to any kind of dimension and transformable. Our consciousness is the sacred potion to open the gate of trance. Flowers are the representation of life and praying, as some of the flowers that are used are specific flowers used in Balinese canang (offerings for prayer and to give respect to spirits). When One’s pilgrimage is completed and One transcend, One will be cleansed. One will be one with nature and disappear from the human form."
