Song Title: The Divorcee
Director: Matthew Hill
What’s the concept behind the clip? The video follows a miniature bride and groom as they respond to a very raw separation. The way the situation gets dealt with (or not) channels the post-breakup debauchery I wrote the song about.
How long did it take to make? A few days spread across a couple of months - it's been a busy time!
Where did you film it? The whole project was actually done on Matt's kitchen table. We storyboarded it there over tea, we took the shots there, and then Matt sat there editing it.
What’s your favourite part of the clip? I like the overarching metaphors - the toys reflect the immature behaviour, and the hands controlling them reflect the irresponsibility. I also like how we got nightclub strobe lights from our drummer Ash waving his hand over his phone torch.
Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? After I used wedding cake figurines for the single cover, we started digging up old toys and thinking about interactions.
Will you be launching it? 5 Jan, Smith's Alternative, Canberra; 6 Jan, Vic On The Park, Sydney
