Sounds familiar right? That might be because Tiny Little Houses have just dropped the ultimate millennial anthem for all of us whiny slackers. When they’re not on the road with Cloud Control or Tired Lion, the Melbourne group are taking the mediocrity of everyday suburban life in Australia and injecting it into charming numbers, leaving the averageness of the situations untouched. It’s not romanticised, it’s not overwrought with emotion, it’s just raw music that’s just as appropriate to scream your lungs out to as it is to cry to.
Entitled Generation acts as an ode to our millennial cohort and all the messes we’ve been left to clean up. Frontman Caleb Karvountzis’ clever (but never pretentious) lyricism take centre stage as usual, flitting between slipping living wages and inflation to just generally feeling lost in life. Tiny Little Houses’ signature is stamped all over the track with Karvountzis’ distinctive vocals and a lo-fi melody that dances a unique line between indie pop and 90s rock. While feeling like the world is against you isn’t great, it’s nice knowing we’re all in this sinking ship together. So next time you’re crying over rent prices into some kind of avocado and halloumi-based breakfast, just know at least you can find two and a half minutes solace in Entitled Generation.
