Single Focus: The Smart - Cold Dark Room

24 April 2012 | 11:34 am | Staff Writer

The Smart's new single Cold Dark Room is inspired by James Bond films.

What's the song about?
Knowing who you are, what you believe and standing by it. It's about not letting external situations dictate who you are, and the strength that comes from understanding what life is really about. Once you figure out where you fit in this crazy world, you're able to endure the cold and dark places.

Is this track from a forthcoming/existing release?
Forthcoming debut album, yewww!

How long did it take to write/record?
This song was one of the most difficult songs to write and record. We really put our heart and soul into it and kinda went all out with vocal harmonies and horns section etc. It's so far removed from the original acoustic song we wrote about two years ago that you can barely recognise it.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making?
We wrote this song while watching James Bond movies, trying to make the ultimate theme song for 007 himself. It is the perfect song to crank whilst speeding down a freeway in a missile-equipped car.

What's your favourite part of the song?
For me it's the drum solo at the start of the song going into the intro riff, epic!

Do you play it differently live?
Not really; the only thing that's different is that there's a lot more sweat going on when I play it live. It's a fun song to play ;-)

Will you be launching it?
On Saturday 28 April at Club SFX in Sydney. Can't wait for this one!
