Announcing their return just under two months ago, one of the world’s best and most beloved indie-rock bands The National returned in sensational form through sharing the first preview of their forthcoming album titled Sleep Well Beast with The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness. Just how good will the record be only time will tell, but if their latest cut is anything to go by, we just may be in for something rather special. Teasing something earlier this week, yesterday the band shared a new song Guilty Party (which was accompanied by the release of a trippy, somewhat psychedelic visual). A simple drum loop and a piano piece that aches beautiful loneliness, the second preview of Sleep Well Beast paints a picture of frontman Matt Berninger caressing the mic. As Matt sings with admission "You're sleeping night and day, how do you do it? Me, I am wide awake, feeling defeated." Guilty Party delivers a real sense of melancholy, and if there is one band that can make feeling lost, sad or dreary appealing, it’s The National.
The National’s forthcoming album Sleep Well Beast is due for release on September 8th.
