‘I Have To Go Rogue Every Single Time’: Peach PRC Reflects On The Past As She Steps Into Her New Era

Not Reinventing The Wheel, Just Making It Taste Better

The B.East Loves Burgers, Beer And Music

The B. East is all about burgers, beer and music, in no particular order. To celebrate the love of these three obsessions as well as three years of business, they’re inviting everyone around for free shit.

The old menu will be running all day and night, and staff will be walking around handing out samples from the new menu as well.

The idea of The B. East started innocently enough. “We were looking to do something fun that involved music, that involved easy quick, fun, fast food and beers. This was before the burger trend really kicked off. We just wanted to do stuff that was interesting to us, and if you work in something that you love doing, you’re not really working,” explains venue manager Guy Daley.

Inspiration for the new bites comes from all over North and Central America. “We’ve been trawling American food that we really love. It is a combination of Southern food — there’s a bit of Mexican influence in there as well. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, we’re just trying to make it taste better!”

"We just wanted to do stuff that was interesting to us, and if you work in something that you love doing, you’re not really working,”

Chef Jarrod Moore “really just loves making burgers”, and judging by the turnout last year, everyone loves eating them. The venue has standing room for about 200 and they fill up fast, so get down early for a seat.

Music-wise, they’re bringing all of their favourite regulars back for their third birthday celebration. There’s DJ Mermaid, Lamine Sonko & The African Intelligence, DJ Nui Moon and DJ Top Heavy. They traverse rock’n’roll, funk and soul, so there’s something for everyone. “We’ve just got all the regulars that come here and DJ. Top Heavy is kooky, offbeat rock’n’roll. Nui does some awesome Afro-funk and soul.”

On the drinks side of the equation? “We’ve got Mornington Brewery slabs, we’ve got a Holgate brewery keg, drink specials, full bar, we’ve got giveaways, and we’ll have punch going on. It’s the celebration drink we always bring out when there’s a party,” says Daley.

There is something on pretty much any day of the week at this place, whether it is trivia, DJs and bands on Thursdays, or the 100% vegan menu and a night of punk rock on Mondays. Heading into winter, they’ll be having Gospel Sundays with four singers and seven players; and every last Thursday of the month they’ve got a jazz sit-in with three regular jazz musicians; anyone is welcome to join in for a song or two. The first Friday of every month there’s also a blues sit-in with the Aleister James Blues Assembly.

Oh, and just in case you’re the kind of person that just wants to smoke and sit around on the couch playing Mario Kart, you’re covered too. They’ve just installed Mario Kart on their TV. Nice.
