Taste Test: Don McGlashan

24 July 2012 | 4:30 am | Staff Writer

Don McGlashan tells us a couple of his favourite things.

The best record I stole from my folks' collection was…

Sergio Mendes And Brazil 66.

The first record I bought with my own money was…

Tommy the musical – the version by Richie Havens, Rod Stewart, Ringo Starr and the London Symphony Orchestra. I think I was about ten.

The record I put on when I'm really miserable is…

LCD Soundsystem – North American Scum.

The record I put on when I bring someone home is…

Ron Sexsmith – Secret Heart.

The most surprising record in my collection is…

Well there are lots of surprising things, but the thing that's constantly surprising me today is the works of Moondog – a New York-based artist who composed with saxophones, bottles and found objects.

The last thing I bought/downloaded was…

an album by Rachel Unthank and The Winterset [Last]. Beautiful, strange folk/experimental stuff from Northumberland.
