Sydney Comedy Focus: Cyrus Bezyan: Self Titled

Briefly describe your show. My show is part stand-up, part narrative, part one-man sketch and part audiovisual spectacle. I'll be telling the real life story of how I changed my name when I was 14. It's based on a radio piece I wrote for SBS last year, which was part of their True Stories campaign. The story is very personal, but the show is very absurd... It has potato chips, pathos and virtual reality!

What was the inspiration behind your show? For a long time I had conflicting feelings about changing my name, but as I grew as a person and performer I gained confidence in the fact that it was a thing I did. After writing the story for SBS I thought that it would make for a good comedic stage adaptation. The show will also have a sword fight.

What happened the last time you were heckled? I can't remember... so I'll make one up: It was mid-2014, President Barack Obama was in town, he dropped in to see me do a set. He thought it was pretty great but an emergency came up and he had to leave, so he shouted out while I was in the middle of bit that he had to "scoot"... It was really annoying.

When and where is your SCF show? 3 - 8 May, Enmore Theatre
