All That Snazz.
Supersnazz play Ramone-A-Thon at the Paddington Workers Club on Saturday.
“I'm very excited to go to Australia, it'll be my first time visiting Australia,” starts Supersnazz bassist Tomoko. “I've heard about the koalas and kangaroos and Australian beef and good beer and good music. I'm looking forward to drinking and seeing some bands and sight seeing. I hope I have a lot of fun over there. I hear that many great bands are playing with us the night of the Ramone-a-thon. It's going to be a big party.”
On the subject of the Ramones, what do they mean to you?
“They're my heroes and I have influenced by them a lot on writing songs. They are more than heroes. They are the kings of punk rock I think.”
How did Joey and Dee Dee's deaths affect you?
“I felt very sad; especially when Joey died... he died of cancer, right? I was very sad at that time. Dee Dee's death I felt it was a bit of a shame about it because he had that drug overdose. I think that's a little shame but I feel felt sad about it.”
If you could be a Ramone, which one would you be and why?
“Dee Dee. DeeDee Ramone 'cause I play bass and he influenced me a lot on playing bass. I like his style.”
Hard question... what do you think is the best Ramones song of all-time?
“That is a very hard question... let me see. I like Blitzkrieg Bop.”
Which are your favourite Ramones songs to cover?
“Blitzkrieg Bop and Rock N Roll High School, we sometimes play a few songs but I don't know if we will be playing all of them in Australia.”
For the uninitiated, how would you describe Supersnazz?
“A bunch of punk power pop rock n roll band.”
Seeing as Supersnazz are from Japan, what's the punk scene like over there?
“We have a pretty big scene, especially here in Tokyo where I live. It's a pretty big scene with Supersnazz, The 5,6,7,8's we're always playing somewhere. Tokyo is the centre of Japan and it's very busy and very crowded. It's very busy all over the place; things happen and happen and happen all the time. It's exciting but I think that it is too busy.”
Where'd the name Supersnazz come from?
“I picked the name after The Flaming Groovies album which is called Supersnazz and because I found a record when I was seventeen year old. It's such a good record so I took the name after their album.”
If you weren't in Supersnazz what else would you be doing?
“I can't imagine! Maybe I would became a cook, because I like to cook very much.”
What's the best thing about doing what you do?
“I think being in the band you can travel all over the world. I think that's the best thing. I didn't ever think I can travel all over the world and do some stuff like play live and record and visit beautiful places. I think its getting perfect project. I like Spain and America, especially Seattle and San Francisco and some cities in Europe. The most beautiful place I've been is Paris. It was very beautiful.”
Supersnazz have just released a best of album.
“We have eighteen songs on it and now people can listen to our oldest stuff to our newest stuff. They can recognise us getting better. I want to keep travelling with the band. I really want to go to China. It's really close to us but it's hard to get shows over there. I want to go to China.”
What can Australian's expect from your live show?
“Maybe people could be jumping around. It's going to be big fun 'cause we play with a lot of energy and a lot of guts. I hope people will have big fun to they see us.”
