Since the Australian electronic community is becoming more close knit, we recently asked BUOY for some guidance on what Australian artists she loves
We're becoming massive fans of the Sydney based artist known as BUOY (Charmian Kingston to friends and fam). After releasing two ripper singles earlier this year she has also just unveiled her debut EP, Immersion.
A four track release that explores the space between ethereal pop through to the darker shades of ambient electronic music. With use of textured synths, intricate sampling and her striking vocal work, BUOY (and her co-producer, Jack Grace) explores a sense of space and intimacy through her own unique framework. Since the Australian electronic community is becoming more close knit, we recently asked BUOY for some guidance on what Australian artists she gets inspiration from and are worth talking about. She ended up listing her five favourite local acts for us.
I’lls
I love everything about these guys. Their lyrics/melodies/chordal harmonies melt me and their beats are so mad.
Collarbones
Amazing. The sample running through this track is so sick and they nailed the drums with it. I think that’s what they nail with all their tracks, along with Marcus’s vocals & lyrics. They have such power in their visuals and how they use & move their bodies with their music.
Klo
I <3 Klo. 'Under Lie' is my favourite song of theirs; Chloe’s vocal sample is so good. The harmony and drum patterns in this one get to me in such a good way.
MOVEMENT
I am so impressed with Movement. Incredible vocals, incredible space. I love the bass in this track.
Jack Grace
I work a lot with Jack Grace for BUOY. I really love how he works and what he does. His vision and flow for arranging sounds and emotion is so unique. 'Hills' is his first release.
BUOY's Immersion EP is out now via October Records.
