As you'd expect, Fringe Festival brings some pretty out-there ideas into the cultural centre, and with this year's Perth Fringe Festival announcement being full of entirely homegrown specials, it means that a couple of long-time passion projects are finally getting their time in the spotlight.
Take Musicians Kitchen Battles, for example. It's an idea that's been brewing in the mind of Perth's Ai-Ling Truong for a while now, the idea of placing Perth-based musicians on a Masterchef-like stage finally coming to fruition as it premieres at Perth Fringe 2021 in April. The idea brings together the worlds of food and music (inarguably two of the best worlds there is, don't fight me about it) as two Perth bands are placed against each other, having to show off the culinary chops they've built putting together sharehouse meals and hotel snacks over the course of their careers.
It runs from January 21st to January 24th at the State Theatre Centre; each night featuring two different acts plucked from the depths of Perth music, judged by former Masterchef finalist Jessica Arnott and master-of-all-trades Aarom Wilson. Here's the night-by-night lineup:

Friday 22 January 2021 - New Talk vs Odlaw
Saturday 23 January 2021 - Injured Ninja vs Downsyde

As you can see, it's quite a wide range of musicians spread between long-time favourites and a range of genres, being not just a reflection of the brilliance of Perth music, but also their culinary prowess (or how far that extends beyond the realms of noodles cooked in a hotel room's kettle or the 'whatever looks fresh goes into it' omelettes that are made in 18 days a year they're not touring).
