Byron Bay/Northern Rivers indie rock band The Colliflowers are seasoned professionals when it comes to sun-drenched music loaded with driving rhythms, catchy melodies and illuminating guitar riffs. Their most recent offering Streets flexes these intuitive chops to the fullest, detailing a story that reminds them that there is no place like home.

After a hectic 2024 filled with monumental live performances, playing sold-out headline shows across the country, touring with DICE and The Vanns and playing festivals like Queensland’s Spaced Out, Tone City Records Festival in WA, and Byron Music Festival in their hometown, there’s no slowing down for The Colliflowers as they venture into 2025 with new music that signifies the road ahead.

Comprised of Gary Collocott (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rachael Goddard (drums), Nelson Ludeke (lead guitar), and Alex Pereira (bass), the four-piece collectively and wholeheartedly deliver a summer anthem that make a nod to the sounds of Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Rions, but nonetheless true to their personal style. The song gradually builds into a memorable chorus helmed by the richness of Collocott’s vocals, where he proclaims “These city streets have never felt like home…”. Accompanied by lively guitars and empowering drums, this sentiment feels near and dear to the band, who wrote the song about a collection of Australian cities while on their demanding tour schedule last year. While the bright lights and bustle of the big city kept them company on the road, it’s the creeks and cattle sheds of home that the band looked forward to the most. The song sees the band confide in a shared need to get away from the big smoke, a natural thought process that’s bound to occur after spending so much time away.

"Touring Australia with DICE and The Vanns took us to so many cities and towns that completely blew us away. Coming from a small rural town, we were amazed by how easily accessible everything was and how great the suburban vibes felt,” the band said in a press release.

“We would always comment on how sick it would be to live in these areas but then questioned it as soon as we returned back to the Northern Rivers - there’s just no place like home.”

Recorded at SCU Studios in Lismore, within arms reach from home, Streets came together. Taking a more relaxed and stripped back approach to the recording process, The Colliflowers decided to minimise production entirely and exclusively use instruments and physical sound sources during the creative process. With Goddard’s roomy drum sound, Periera’s punchy yet melodic bassline, Ludeke’s powerful guitar melodies and Collocott’s standout vocals, the song found its wings.
