“And he says ‘I’m not ever gonna change’”
Perth duo, Telete (pronounced teh-leh-tee) have today dropped a track most important in these troubling times, the melancholic Basketball Boy, premiering on theMusic.com.au today.
The track lures you in with its floaty synths, angelic vocals and pretty strings, but hidden in the lyrics are musings on toxic masculinity.
"And he says/Most of what you're feeling is your own fault anyway/He says If you choose to be offended then that's the choice you've made/ are just some of the words that sear through the deceptively gorgeous cut.
"We are hoping the track highlights the enormous emotional burdens/amount of emotional labour women are expected to do, even to simply justify their own feelings - and reclaim the right to not have to do that anymore," the band said in a statement.

As the tune floats off on the repeated lament, And he says I’m not ever gonna change, the listener is left with a reserved sadness from such a beautiful song.
