Emergent Gold Coast musician Angie Farr — aka Old Sault — is working up to the unveiling of her debut EP, Mostly Worried, and today shares the release's third single, Sleeping With Danger.
Proudly premiering on theMusic.com.au today, the tune carries a darkened, minimalist atmosphere deeply reminiscent of Manchester Orchestra's more morose moments (think Sleeper 1972, for an easy comparison point), with other influences cited including the likes of Bon Iver, Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Elliott Smith, among others.
Farr's hushed, layered vocals weave an enticing thread through the song's ominous lyrics and glacial crescendo, building gradually to give way to lines of electric guitar and purposeful drums in its back quarter as she sings her climactic refrain, "Mostly worried, I am".
It's an ethereal, assured follow-up to her previous EP singles, Ghost and Sail Home, both of which have earned the singer-songwriter a growing degree of renown over the past 15 months or so — quite the feat considering she's yet to even play a gig.
That's all about to change in the very near future, though, with Mostly Worried set to land officially on Friday 12 May and Old Sault's live debut set to follow soon.
