SINGLE PREMIERE: MONATOMIC - 'Breathe'

5 February 2020 | 2:18 pm | Staff Writer

"It all came out in one stream of consciousness."

More MONATOMIC More MONATOMIC

Sydney duo MONATOMIC return today with what they're calling their most empathic and raw single to date - and we here at theMusic.com.au are stoked to bring you the premiere.

Following a huge 2019 for the band, which saw them score rotation on triple j and the Hit Network, the single Breathe is the first of a number of releases slated for 2020.

"This particular song gets deep into the despair and darkness you can feel when you’re totally in love with someone but they don’t love you back but just use you," vocalist Steffan Lazar told The Music

"It was written when I was suffering from depression and it all came out in one stream of consciousness."

That stream of consciousness meant the track was recorded in one take, and it sees Lazar in a more vulnerable place than we have in bops like They're Playing My Song. Building momentum with soaring vocals, the track breathes life into that gut-wrenching feeling of unrequited love.
