Canberra artist Daniel Kirkland — aka Kirklandd — is following up his recent national tour and previous single, Rise, with his luscious new cut Dynasty, and theMusic.com.au is stoked to be premiering the track today.
Taken from his upcoming EP, due for release later this year, Dynasty features choral voices, electric and grand pianos, minimalist, reverberating percussion and Kirklandd's sophisticated lyricism all working together to create a soulful, emotionally candid tune that should pique the interest of anyone with a penchant for intelligently crafted hip hop.
By the artist's own account, the song blends elements of "golden-age hip hop and alternative production", courtesy Cam Bluff (Amy Shark, Allday). He considers it something of a mood-setter for the ensuing EP release, and the ambition therein is evident in its construction.
Kirklandd will be out and about for a couple of shows in the coming weeks, starting with tomorrow night's "Party & Bullshit Fridays" event at Melbourne's Laundry Bar; he'll be joined downstairs by Sofie Roze and DJ Smilez, with upstairs sounds coming from Mitzu and Sonic Vibes afterwards.
