The debut single from the Newcastle artist.
Singer-songwriter Jacob Ridgeway has released his powerful debut single in line with NAIDOC Week.
Co-written with Kevin Bennet at the 2017 DAG Sheep Station Writers Retreat, Bullyman “focuses on the story of a local Newcastle elder and her experience as a victim of the stolen generation and the White Protection act”, while paying tribute to Ridgeway’s Worimi and Gamilaroi Indigenous heritage.
“This story is character driven from transitional moments in her life from small child, young woman to a mother herself all whilst being fed lies and a false sense of security from the Bullyman (Government Official),” Ridgeway said.
“As the story progresses with her exposure to the world and education, she realises the protection that she was told was never real (White Protection Act/Policy and Aborigines Protection Act) and will protect her children at all costs.”
