Direct Influence tell us about Far East

What's the song about?

It's about escaping the troubles of everyday life, finding your magical place and going there and feeling human again. That place for me is Mahia in New Zealand.

Is this track from a forthcoming/existing release?

We have just released Far East and will be releasing another single in a month. They will be a part of our sophomore album that will be released by the end of the year.

How long did it take to write/record?

This song was written on an iPad program in 15 minutes and recorded in the studio in about two days. It was an experience I wish we had when writing and recording every song! The film clip took a little longer but we're happy with how everything came together pretty quickly.

What was inspiring you during the song's writing and recording?

I was listening to a lot of TV On The Radio at the time. Far East sounds nothing like them, but I was feeling the energy in their tracks and I think we got that vibe in Far East. It's emotive and fun.

We'll like this song if we like…

BMX riding! Get your bikes out kids? Or if you like Mark Ronson or Phoenix.

Do you play it differently live?

This recording is very energetic and gets you moving, so we feel we don't need to change it for our live set, it bangs!

Will you be launching it?

We're headlining the Espy Front Bar this Friday 18 May with a great line-up. Come check it out. Then we're putting on another Melbourne show when we get back from headlining the main stage at Music Matters, Singapore to kick off our Australian tour through July/August – fun times ahead. In the meantime, grab it from iTunes and chuck it in your iPod.
