Single Focus: Adam Young

6 November 2015 | 4:41 pm | Artist Submission

"I wrote it in a motel room in Coonabarabran, after a long drive, which might be why it talks of the plains and why it sounds better in a car."

Single title? The Queen Of The Plains

What's the song about? It's a Beat-like take on a muse that may inhabit the wide-open spaces of the musical landscape. Or not.

How long did it take to write/record? It was one of those that drifted in and stayed five minutes, long enough for me to get it down. The album it's on took almost three years to record, which was cosmic debt recovery.

Is this track from a forthcoming release/existing release? Yes, it's the first single from my debut solo album, Elementary Carnival Blues, which is out in February on Stanley Records.

What was inspiring you during the song's writing and recording? I wrote it in a motel room in Coonabarabran, after a long drive, which might be why it talks of the plains and why it sounds better in a car.

We'll like this song if we like... Plains and queens and cars.

Do you play it differently live? I play a lot of solo shows, so it takes on a different thing altogether. I'll play it with a horn section at the launch, which will be a first.

When and where is your launch/next gig? The single launch is happening on 13 Nov at Marrickville Bowling Club, where I'll be performing with a full band. Special guest is Sam Shinazzi.
