Shrapnel Have A Tongue Twister For You

'Tranceplanetsugarmouth' is actually the name of their record.

We've got a new tongue twister for you: Tranceplanetsugarmouth. Yep, try saying that ten times. Or singing it. Tranceplanetsugarmouth is actually the name of a record by Sydney outfit Shrapnel, who sound like "guitar pop with a '90s nod" according to their guitarist and writer Sam Wilkinson (Day Ravies, Mope City, Beef Jerk).

The project started solo, in Wilkinson's bedroom, but he got lonely. It was "an outlet to release my cassette explorations," he explains. "In the last year a few of my close buddies and I turned it into a three-guitar-rock thing." Working under the label Coolin' By Sound, they recorded it at home because "it's mostly quicker and easier doing it yourself".

The sound was fleshed out "a fair bit... to suit the three guitars," and they were inspired by "a lot of Australian bands" like Possible Humans, The High Beamers and The Stevens. Wilkinson's fave track from the record is "probably Carpet Yankers, because it was a bit of a home studio/tape machine freakout and really fun to make".
