"I decided to record music I had written that sat outside heavy rock."
Shiver Canyon managed to overcome the odds when recording their self-titled EP. "We had some bad luck during the recording of the EP; Red [Black, producer] was injured for a number of months, and I also battled illness over that time. Fortunately we are both resilient people and were able to motivate ourselves with our love of music and vision for the EP," explains vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Roni Shewan.
The artist's "visceral, ethereal blend of trip-hop, electronica and dream-pop" came from Shewan's side project "during my time as vocalist in progressive art rock band A State Of Flux. I decided to record music I had written that sat outside heavy rock, with a focus on other genres that had influenced me, including trip-hop, ambient, folk and art-song.
"I previously worked with Red Black in A State of Flux and loved what we were able to create, so it was an easy decision to work with him again. Red has extensive knowledge of production and an amazing ear. We recorded the EP at his studio, Red Lodge. We had quite a back catalogue of music to choose from, but decided on five songs that we felt worked cohesively. Though each song differs in mood and style, there is a common theme of desire and longing, as well as the blending of acoustic and electronic elements," Shewan explains.
