More SG Lewis More SG Lewis

It felt like just the other day we were talking about SG Lewis, and the growth curve that's allowed him to blossom into one of electronic's most exciting musicians. At the end of the day, however, it's just remarkably exciting; the British producer coming a long, long way from his remixes littering the infamous Majestic Casual YouTube, with a trajectory that's placed him on one of the year's biggest pop records - Dua Lipa's synth-driven Future Nostalgia - amongst singles of his own, such as Chemicals - a track that featured his own vocals for the very first time.

In hindsight, however, it's been a long time coming. The musician has always been at the cusp of the future, leaping out of the box to push his boundaries and consistently experiment with his craft, while guest collaborators he arms himself with often have like-minded qualities: Ruel, Clairo (twice), AlunaGeorge and so on. Everything about SG Lewis feels forward-thinking, so it's not surprising to see him thrive while artists that arose alongside him stay within their lane and don't find the same fate.

While Chemicals showed this in one way, SG Lewis' new single Impact is an entirely different conversation. It's a song that really captures the musician's full potential, one-upping his discography as he blends together old and new featuring some of electronica's most adventurous and defining names: Robyn, someone heavily associated the foundations of dance-pop with a legacy that still finds itself present in records by Lorde, Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga and onwards, and Channel Tres, whose hip-hop-electronica fusion is unlike anything else, and worthy of celebrating at every opportunity.

Impact isn't the type of song that lets these guests go to waste, however. It's a celebration of their craft and how they're able to play off each other's strengths: SG Lewis uniting with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs for a funk-driven, house-leaning production with rolling bass that perfectly compliments Channel Tres' low-slung buttery vocal which dances over the top. Robyn's choruses, meanwhile, are otherworldly - giving exactly what we'd expect from someone whose vocal is synonymous with some of electronica's most beautiful and captivating moments.

"Impact is possibly my favourite record I’ve ever been a part of," says SG Lewis on the single. "The chemistry between Channel and Robyn is so powerful, and creates something so unique. Channel is an artist I believe will go on to create a musical legacy as important as the one Robyn has already created, and to have the two of them on this record together is insane. Working with my good friend TEED again on the production is amazing, as he is truly a production hero of mine. I hope it provides some release and euphoria in a time where it’s hard to come by."
