Skateboarder Tommy Fynn defends his title at Shocklands 2012 at Docklands this Saturday, while over at Melbourne Showgrounds the Dolls Of Hazzard take on Dead Ringer Rosies at Victorian Roller Derby League Bout 5. Fynn and the Dolls’ Alex In Chains tell us about their skating obsessions.
Skating since?
AIC: 2010.
TF: I have been skating for ten years.
How did you get into roller derby/skating?
AIC: I was speaking to a friend who said she was going out to watch a game at Puckhandlers. I couldn't believe that something this awesome was happening without me being a part of it. I ordered my skates the next day!
TF: When I first moved from South Africa to New Zealand, I lived with my cousins and all they did was skate so that's how I got introduced to it.
Who's your roller derby/skating idol and why?
AIC: Rocket Mean, Rose City Rollers. She founded RCR and is the most engaging, passionate derby girl I've ever met. You can't help but lose yourself in the derby world when she is talking.
TF: Eric Koston – he has kept up a solid career with the cleanest style, the best tricks and it's like he is always reinventing himself.
Theme song?
AIC: Don't Speak (I Came To Make A Bang) – Eagles Of Death Metal.
TF: Anything by Rick Ross.

Signature move?
AIC: The robot on the jammer line – I like to get the after party started early.
TF: Backside flip.
Who'd play you in the movie of your life?
AIC: Janeane Garofalo. She is kick-ass.
TF: Chris Tucker!
