"This album is not that."
There's one track, Senorita, on Roland Kay-Smith's latest LP As Cool As They Come and it's ten years old!
While the rest of the songs on the record are relatively new, his experience in the industry goes back through "all of my adult life". "I've been in Walrus, Roland K Smith & The Sinners and Smitty & B Goode. I started recording and performing solo to stretch myself musically. I've released a few albums and toured a little bit. Now I'm here," he explains. "The album was recorded at Studios 301 with Stefan du Randt. This is the first time I had recorded at a high end studio. Needless to say, it wasn't cheap! I launched a Pozible campaign to help fund the recording," he laughs.
"My last album was a very romantic album - lots of moonbeams, oceans, morning lights and yearning. This album is not that. The characters here are selfish, immature and straight up nasty. It's a lot more fun. I tried to keep all of the songs short, meaningful and funny. I purposefully tried to inject humour into subjects that aren't usually funny as a way to approach them from different angles. I also tried to pick subjects that don't usually get written about in songs, like talking at gigs!"
