More Record Store Day More Record Store Day

Answered by: Benny Badge (Concierge)

What does your store specialise in? New and used beats, hip hop, jazz, funk, soul, plus a select range of dance, electronica, rock and international vibes. We're also big on pushing local labels and quirky Aussie-made music, new and old.

What's on high rotation on the store stereo at the moment and why? We've been cranking the Local Honey cassette by Melbourne's Horatio Luna collective, a mash-up of local players including SilentJay and members of 30/70. It's a woozy, jazzy affair that we're dying to have on vinyl!

What does a record store offer that clicking or tapping a button can't? Discussion. Mystery. Infinite possibility (and sometimes pizza).

Despite declines in other areas of the industry, vinyl is seeing an increase in sales. Why do you think that is? Vinyl has personality, history and a human element. The experience of bringing a record into your home is something the industry forgot about. I think it's that missing experience that has made things come full circle.

What have you got planned on Record Store Day? We'll have DJs and live music from midday, a film screening by Crate Cartel plus exclusive titles by Aux Wun and Blue Avenue Band on the shop label and Au Dre on Gulf Point Records!
