Rebel Yell goes retro in commanding new single, High Authority

Thumping with a modernised take on acid-house, Rebel Yell's new single is a relentless electronic banger that never dims down..

More Rebel Yell Rebel Yell

It's always exciting to see new forces in Australian electronic emerge, and Rebel Yell - a project of Brisbane's Grace Stevenson - may be the most exciting of the lot. Stevenson's new single High Authority is commanding and thrilling, throbbing with this almost acid-house-esque sound that endlessly pulses across the single's four-minute duration. It's dominated by these relentless kicks of bass, which combine with distorted synth and percussion to create a rave-ready anthem that's reminiscent of The Chemical Brothers or early Boys Noize, with the assertive, echoing vocals of Stevenson bossily repeating throughout. The accompanying video clip, which arrives with the single's release, continues this almost retro-like acidic feel, with quick cuts of distorted footage of Rebel Yell singing and dancing forming the backbone of the video's somewhat hectic nature, perfectly complementing the single's matching sound. Check out the video clip below, and be sure to check out Rebel Yell at the forthcoming Body Promise showcase this June as a part of Vivid Sydney - more info HERE.
