Showcasing her storytelling songwriting skills is Naarm/Melbourne’s Tig with her stirring new single and music video Too Late Heartbreak, out September 27 but premiering on Pilerats today.
Too Late Heartbreak follows a busy couple of years for Tig that have seen her hone her chops on the live stage, having played iconic venues like The Triffid (QLD), Miami Marketta (QLD) and Fed Square’s (VIC) main stage. She also recorded backing vocals for the Pierce Brothers, who she supported on interstate tours, and was part of Kim Churchill’s 2022 Picnic in the Paddock.
Now the time is right for Tig to unleash her studio recordings with, Too Late Heartbreak providing the perfect introduction. Opening with understated percussion and stripped back piano, Tig’s affecting vocals shimmer in the mix as she reflects on worst case scenarios regarding matters of the heart and how best to navigate them.
Explaining the meaning behind Too Late Heartbreak, Tig explains "This song is about catastrophizing. Building walls. Trying not to get hurt. Confusing isolation with independence. Lying to yourself. And realising some feelings just have to be felt."
Alongside the single comes a quaint, cinematic music video (directed by Jasper Dorman), starring Tig as she deals with a myriad of emotions, inspired by a beautiful practice carried out by her mum. “The idea started with these tiny felt hearts that my mum makes, you keep them in your pocket when you need a bit of love. As the crux of the song is about keeping your heart intact, I asked myself ‘how would I protect one of these pocket hearts if it was prone to breaking?’ And so the lego house was born, followed by the Heartbreak Prevention Plan”, she explains.
