More The Stranger More The Stranger

Brisbane-bred prog-metal outfit The Stranger have been pumping out face-melting riffs for more than two years now, and with their debut self-titled album set to land in just a couple of months, theMusic.com.au is stoked to be premiering the video clip for the boys' beefy new single, The Whip.

Shot in one take in bushland just outside their home town and featuring some pretty darn shmick-looking floating-text effects, the clip was directed, filmed and edited by Adrian Goleby, with whom the band honestly couldn't sound more chuffed.

"Adrian Goleby helped us with the film clip and he really took the bull by the horns from go to whoa," guitarist Kalen Austin said in a statement. "He turned what could have been a fairly standard (albeit scenic) film clip into something that is really next level, with all the effects and shots. We did this in one take — we couldn't be more stoked."

The song itself — a deliciously meaty, double-kick-laden scorcher of a tune if ever there was one — was recorded along with the rest of the album by Adam Merker (Aversion's Crown, Lagerstein, Disentomb) of Anderz Debeerz Studio, with mixing handled by David Kastillo (Katatonia, Bloodbath, Opeth) of Ghost Ward Studios and mastering by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Caligula's Horse) at Fascination Street Studios.

"We are absolutely proud of our work on the album and what we are about to embark on, the release of our self-titled debut LP — and The Whip, we feel, is the epitome of what the record is about — heavy, fun and it's a favourite to play live," Austin said.

The Stranger LP will be released online on Friday 21 April on iTunes and Spotify.

Pre-orders for physical copies will be available on the group's Bandcamp page from this Friday, 24 February, with early-birds getting immediate access to The Whip as part of the deal.

The Stranger don't presently have any shows in the immediate pipeline, but keep an eye on their Facebook page in preparation for when they take this out on the road.
