Energetic Aussie punksThe Drop Bearsare prepping for the release of their debut album, Better Than Therapy, later this year, preceding the full-length with the video for its just-released first single, Hi Dee Ho.

Premiering on theMusic.com.au today, the song is an expression of frontman Pete Vanda's "battle with sadness", canvassing themes of "love, loss, rediscovery and redemption".

"It’s a song about … going forward and being true to yourself and knowing who you are and who and what keeps you happy," he said in a statement. "It’s also a song written about being in a good place with love and support because you grow and choose to have the the right people in your life."

The Drop Bears — whose sound Vanda self-describes as being "The Easybeats and The Kinks slapping each other with fish in the back of an XB coupe being driven by Nirvana and navigated by David Bowie" — have had a remarkable ascent over their two years as a band, playing a headline show at iconic Melbourne venue The Espy within a month of their first-ever gig.

They've received airplay on Triple M, have supported both Everclear and Unwritten Law and were even offered — though had to turn down — a tour of the US while they were completing work on their album.

With a successful recent east-coast tour under their belt and Better Than Therapy due out in the next few months, we're sure it won't be too long before they're presented with similar opportunities going forward.
