PREMIERE: Ryland Rose - Brooke Shields

Victorian rap/hip hop artist Ryland Rose — formerly known simply as Ry — made a big splash last year with his internationally successful single Almost Famous & Broke.

As he prepares to release his debut full-length of the same name, he's unveiled another excellent piece of soulful smoothness in new single Brooke Shields, the video for which is proudly premiering on theMusic.com.au today.

The clip was directed and filmed by Amy Dellar, and follows three hypnotically in-sync young women who appear to be sort-of obsessed with our protagonist — at least, at first, although a creeping sense of unease builds throughout.

According to Rose, the song's title is metaphorical, rather than a literal reference to the multiple Razzie Award-winning actress and one-time star of Suddenly Susan (although, hey, remember that show?).

"Brooke Shields is a title I came up with as a metaphor for the music industry," he explained in a statement. "It's beautiful and enticing, but don't let it steer you away from who you intended to be.

"After a few bumps in the road, I've found that the beauty is usually in the imperfections… Oh, and it's also just a cool name for a song."

Almost Famous & Broke will be released independently on Friday 12 May.
