PREMIERE: Left - No Way

12 April 2016 | 11:46 am | Staff Writer

Sydney-based electronic duo Left have unveiled their new track No Way, an infectious dance track that carries a hidden depth, and The Music is thrilled to be hosting its premiere today.

Billed as a "jam with a message", No Way's infectious, dancefloor-ready grooves belie its weighty undertone, a reaction from singer Sarah Corry towards "ongoing and increasing domestic and sexual violence cases against women in Australia." Moving past the catchy melody, the track's lyrics pack a powerful punch, with Corry exclaiming in one refrain, 'This is my body and it's not yours/ you can never take me by force/ Don't put out my light source/ I say no way'.

"I want to be able to say something in our songs, to use my voice as much as I can in a positive way," Corry said in a statement. "No Way was written in this time where we see so much deep-seeded, dark abuse and mistreatment of women. Women's bodies being found raped and destroyed by their partners — it hurts me so much to see this.

"I decided to write a song that was bursting with positivity and a powerful message that we have the power to own our bodies, our lives, our fate."

No Way is the band's first collaboration with renowned producers Styalz Fuego and Nic Martin, and further solidifies the pair as a vital act to watch on the Australian electro scene, following on from a stellar 2015 in which Left supported both Thelma Plum and Sietta nationally, as well as being named as national support and live band for Tuka's recent Life Death Eternal tour.
