The pairing, composed of Henry Kissinger and Cruz Patterson, make smooth hip-hop for fans of FlyLo and BADBADNOTGOOD..
Composed of one of Perth's go-to producers - Henry Kissinger - and ex-Koi Child frontman Cruz Patterson, Kissinger Kruz is a relatively new hip-hop project from Fremantle that specialise in this silky smooth, jazz-infused hip-hop sound. By combining twinkling keys and soft beats with this quick-paced rhyme, they're almost like the meeting place of Flying Lotus' more rap-centric work and BADBADNOTGOOD's piano-infused production; albeit given a distinct Perth spin that parallels a couple of other names beginning to find their sound within this lane; Butter and Racka Chachi being two names recently featured here in the last six months.
Their new single Push Up is the perfect example of why Kissinger Kruz is just so exciting. With a tight, three-minute duration keeping things concise and focused, Push Up is a no-holds-barred masterclass of what exactly this unstoppable pairing do best, with Kissinger's combination of forward-thinking hip-hop beats and dizzying keys meeting Patterson's gentle flow, which feels accessible and casual yet focused and on-point. Today, however, we're premiering Push Up's official video clip - a shining spotlight on their home city worked on alongside one of the best we have to offer in the video space - Matsu.
Shot throughout Fremantle, the scenic visuals are the perfect accompaniment to the single's relaxed energy, taking that chill Fremantle 'vibe' (for the lack of better word) and matching it perfectly to the silky rap underneath. "We weren’t sure if we were going to shoot a video but Matsu, who is a good friend of ours, hit us up one day to fill us in on a concept he thought of while listening to Push Up - something real chill to match the track," they say on the clip. "We filmed it over a couple of days and we can honestly say that the video was a piece of the track we didn’t even know was missing. We were extremely lucky to have Matsu on board and we’re honoured to have worked so closely with someone we have so much admiration for. Not only is he one of the best guys you’ll meet, but he’s also one of the most talented individuals we know, and we’re sure that anyone who’s had the pleasure of working with him would agree." As someone who indeed has had the pleasure of working with him, we can 100% confirm.
