In case you're yet to meet, Health Club is the production alias of Queensland's Lucas Reid, who after a stellar run of remixes for Paces and Kilter and a fancy production credit on the former's recent single Call The 5-0, is here to make an impact with his sensational debut single Waste Time. Featuring emerging Melbourne two-piece Minorfauna, themselves one of 2018's best new arrivals, Waste Time sees Health Club introduce us to his washed-out and subdued electronic sound, one that balances subtle synth melodies with a thick, yet incredibly intricate and finely layered percussive backbone. Minorfauna's soft, R&B-leaning vocal comes and goes over the top, adding this pop-like element to the single which really sets it apart from the rest and makes Waste Time an excellent debut from the 24-year-old rising name.
"[Waste Time is the] quickest song I've finished," he says on the single, which arrives with a hopeful promise – or more-so, a demand from us – of more new music in the rest of 2018. "The ideas came immediately and [Minorfauna] nailed it first go." It's delightfully laid-back and relaxed, soaked with this warm, summery flavour without feeling too overwhelming or obviously tropical-inspired – a pretty hard feat to do. Make sure you get around it now ahead of its full release on Friday:
