After their release of their barnstorming debut EP Prescription Bugs earlier this year, Gold Coast duo CAKES have fired their first return salvo of the year with Public Fish, a typically hard-and-fast affair that'll get your feet moving. Taking a full DIY approach and recording, mixing and mastering the track themselves, it adds another level of charm to the already very charming two-piece's repertoire: "It’s not linear at all but I liked that each part of the song could have a different part depending on how dynamic, playful or aggressive it was. This is what shaped the lyrics. Some of these points include an experience where I caught a puffer fish and pride deteriorated to guilt, the Mighty Boosh, hand me down Versace shirts and a time where I went to Sydney as a kid… I saw a homeless man sitting in the middle of the footpath holding a sign that was asking for money to partake in some form of education. That has stuck with me and this song is about not taking things for granted."
It's a pearler, get stuck in below and go rock the fuck out with them at Hey Bar in Brissy tonight, or Miami Shark Bar on their home turf on Saturday.
