PREMIERE: Deeds - Exile

Brissy supergroup-of-sorts Deeds are just past the halfway mark on their current tour in support of their recent debut EP and, ahead of the final two shows of their run, The Music is stoked to be premiering the accompanying video clip for new single Exile today.

The fresh cut follows in the markedly different footsteps of its more restrained predecessor, Dream Song, with thunderous, driven tom work propelling the track forward as frontman Beau Lindsay croons about, in his words, "living in a world filled with other people's expectations of you".

"It's a constant struggle with a fake idea of expression and self-absorbed motives," Lindsay explained of the song's narrative in a statement. "Every now and then, you just need to escape and regroup to have a better understanding of who you are so that you don't get caught up in the intensity that is the world we live in."

Deeds have had a relatively short life together, although the line-up previously performed as a unit under the moniker of Inland Sea until their disbandment four years ago, as well as keeping busy with the likes of Babaganouj and Emma Louise — so it comes as little surprise to find their debut EP as polished and accomplished a release as it is. The masterful production touches from Govinda Doyle (Angus & Julia Stone) — who also worked on Inland Sea's Fortune EP — certainly don't hurt, but this is a band who have clearly capitalised on the lessons learnt in years and bands gone by to hit the ground running towards glory in their new pursuit as Deeds.
