PREMIERE: Darling James - The Itch

31 March 2016 | 11:33 am | Staff Writer

The ex-frontman of The Boat People, James O'Brien — aka Darling James — has been flourishing as a solo artist of late, having achieved radio rotation and more than 100,000 plays on SoundCloud courtesy of his recent single Ultimatum Talk.

As he barrels towards the release of his debut EP, due out soon, Darling James is looking to maintain the momentum swirling around him at present with the unveiling of new cut The Itch, proudly being premiered by The Music today.

The Itch continues the fine form of Ultimatum Talk, blending lush synths, reverb-drenched vocals, arpeggios and falsetto into one layered, infectious, foot-stomping anthem that proves more than capable of keeping expectations high for the EP when it does finally fall into our laps and eagerly waiting ears.

Before we're likely to see the release on the streets, however, Darling James will be setting off for a run of co-headline shows with fellow wunderkind Machine Age, getting under way at Sydney's Brighton Up Bar on Friday 6 May, heading down to perform at Melbourne's Workers Club on Thursday 12 May. He'll complete the run on Friday 13 May, at Brisbane's Milk Factory & Kitchen, in West End.
