Indigenous folk-pop artist Corey Theatre has dropped an uplifting and important new single to coincide with NADOC week.
Music is the first single from the Western Victorian artist’s debut album and features both English and Theatre’s traditional language of Gunditjmara.
On the surface, it’s full of catchy choruses and inspiring melodies, but Music has a far greater purpose than that.
“The Gunditjmara language currently has few fluent speakers, so writing songs in the language provides me with a means of using the language when there’s not many other people to talk to,” Theatre explains.

“Having used music as an aid in learning Pitjantjatjara, I am also trying to create resources and songs as means for others to learn.”
Theatre’s debut album, Ngathuk Ngalina (We Two), will be released September 22.
Catch him live at Producers Bar, Adelaide on July 15 and 20 as well as at the Aboriginal Legal Right Conference on August 17.
