Brisbane's Big Strong Brute has a brand new EP ready to drop at the end of the week — plus a run of east coast shows in honour thereof not too far down the track — and we at The Music are stoked to be premiering the new release, titled Good Work, in full today!
The EP drops this Friday, 31 July, with Big Strong Brute — aka Paul Donoughue — setting off for his road trip swiftly after, kicking off at home in Brisbane at the Black Bear Lodge on Sunday, 7 August (with Stevie and guests TBA), taking a little while in-between before hitting Sydney's Oxford Art Factory Gallery Bar on Saturday, 19 September, Melbourne's Evelyn Hotel on Sunday, 20 September (with Ben Salter and Halfshark), and a final free appearance once more back in the Queensland capital, on the QPAC Green on Saturday, 26 September.
Good Work marks Big Strong Brute's first body of work since 2012's Avalanche Of Truth, and finds the AMP- and QMA-nominated songwriter well at home as a purveyor of intelligent, quirky, disparate pop hooks as exemplified by recent cut (and accompanying video clip) Wait. The EP was recorded with assistance from long-time friend Todd Dixon (Meg Mac, The Panics) at a family cattle property in Old Koreelah, NSW, in all of two weeks — but you wouldn't know it from the care and attention that has been given to this selection of tracks.
Don't sit around reading us waffling on, though; hit that 'play' button and soundtrack your afternoon with this very special delivery for which you've been waiting for the past three years.
