On the eve of yet another lockout rally staged by anti-lockout organisation Keep Sydney Open, theMusic.com.au are eager to premiere a brand new documentary called Beyond The Lockouts.

Attempting to shed light on the deep-seated issues that have caused our local live music industry to crumble over the years — lockouts or not — the short documentary features Australian music royalty such as Icehouse's Iva Davies, Mondo Rock's Paul Christie, Shannon Noll and Randall Walker and was created by indie music web series creators LunchBox TV.

LunchBox TV's Brynn Davies says, "Dad used to tell my brother and I these amazing stories about the heyday of Sydney in the ‘80s. It just sounded like the most vibrant, creative space in the world – huge names playing all over the CBD and out into the burbs every night of the week. But now, at 22, I look around and see our venues closing their doors, our streets are bare, and the up and coming bands I interview talk about how hard it is to make a name for themselves in this environment.

"This documentary is just a tiny glimpse into the factors that have progressively strangled our live scene. Sydney needs some serious CPR – we want to be a part of the movement working towards restoring our great city’s cultural scene."
