Out The Rabbit Hole: Wonderland Festival Wrap Up

Wonderland Festival presented a no bullshit evening of fantastic live music and Alice in Wonderland themed tomfoolery, what could be better?

December saw a massive new festival pop up in WA, taking place at Fremantle Arts Centre. It was titled Wonderland and although it only had a small capacity (3000), it boasted a fantastic modest stable of acts including Tim & Jean, Strange Talk, Cut Copy, Bag Raiders and Sparkadia.

Taking influence from the Meredith/Golden Plains/All Tomorrows Parties Festival models of presenting a streamlined, boutique experience with only 1 stage; patrons didn't have to deal with any time clashs and didn't have to worry about finding their friends. Imagine a no bullshit, straightforward afternoon/evening program of fantastic live music and Alice in Wonderland themed tomfoolery - what could possibly be better?

The endeavor was a huge success with party-goers discoing into the early hours of the morning. The promotors were thrilled with the response and are promising to take punters back down the rabbit hole in 2012. In a climate where so many prehistoric music festivals tours are struggling to maintain ticket sales, it's great to see different approaches like this taken to ensure that a good time is had by all.
