In the last twelve months, the South Australian trio have stepped up as ones to watch in local hip-hop..
We've spoken a tonne about the next generation of Australian hip-hop over the last twelve months, whether it's through artists pushing boundaries on an international scale - The Kid LAROI. being one in particular who has become somewhat of an unstoppable force over the last two years, both in Australia and globally - or the ones next-up stepping up to the plate and showcasing some incredible music in the process of doing so; in Perth, West Australia, greater Australia or beyond.
Because of this, it makes sense that we start talking about EAST AV3. Since emerging with their first track Riding Through the Fire last year, the Adelaide trio have stepped up as an incredibly exciting new face to South Australian rap music who aim to put the state further on the national hip-hop map, blossoming into newly-unearthed stars in the little while since thanks to sets at Listen Out Festival (well, Adelaide's adopted Listen In Festival, at least), and shows alongside Tkay Maidza and Baker Boy; both reinforcing the duo's eclectic, energy-pumping music on the live scale.
In the time since Riding Through the Fire, EAST AV3 have consistently stepped up - both in recording and on the live stage - to emerge as a bright new act worth paying attention to, and their latest single Le Labo presents a great opportunity to start (if you haven't already, that is). Coming in at just under three minutes, Le Labo is a hard-stomping funk-rap tune that layers the duo's vocal versatility with a production that sets them in a lane alongside GoldLink and Anderson .Paak, taking the joy of groove-filled, funk-infused electronica and layering it with go-getting hip-hop verses that set them apart.
It's a track that stresses the importance of balance in rap music. It's heavy and danceable, perfect for those in search of something a little more energetic and eclectic, but it's also quite smooth and refined, full of polish and slickness that makes it easily digestible, and perfect for repeating time and time again. There's plenty to love here, and they're itching to share more. But, before that all goes down, take a dive into Le Labo and better introduce yourself to the pairing while you're at it:

Tell us about yourself?
East Av3 started their Journey on East Avenue when they started making music together in a spare bedroom. During school classes were spent writing, lunch was spent giving demos the ‘car test’. We would throw parties using equipment hired for our schools social. Which captured the essence of our spirit during the time spent at East Avenue.
We share similar tastes in music, art, fashion and design. We aspire to create a culture that is recognised around the world.
What’s the vibe music-wise?
We gain inspiration from everywhere and anything. Experience is the only way to stay creative so we try to be active and go out to find the inspiration. The vibe of the day is the vibe we create.
We started rapping but naturally, our music has progressed into pushing boundaries within the genre. The style is broadening within the industry and we want to contribute to pioneering a new sound.
What are your production and writing processes like?
Always be writing. Always be listening. Always be watching. If it doesn’t flow naturally we move on until we find the one.
Can you tell us about your new single, Le Labo?
We made this song originally out of our comfort zone in terms of the style of production. It’s an embodiment of the atmosphere of our studio at the time. Le Labo is a reference to the cologne Santal 33. This is what it smelt like every time we walked downstairs to the studio. We express our gluttony within the song which is symbolic of us indulging in our creations.
What does 2020 have in store for you?
A platform to showcase our creative ability. This year is about solidifying for us and creating as much as we can while we have so much inspiration around us. Lots of merch, filming, music, designs, and radio rotations.
Where can we find more of your music?
Our music is on all streaming platforms but keep watching our YouTube for content soon. You can find us on Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter, Facebook.
