Listen: S.O.X. - Parlay (prod. CHU.) [Premiere]

Personality and presence abound on this rap/beatmaker collab..

Life's been heating up for Perth rapper Tinashe Soko - aka S.O.X. (Something Outta the Xtraordinary) - since he hit us with his K.I.L.L. EP in 2014. S.O.X. has scored opening spots for Trinidad James, as well as Ja Rule & Ashanti, on their Perth legs, and got himself flown to Singapore for a show. He's been putting in work in the studio with Danny Brown's producer, Skywlkr, and A$AP Ferg also gave the young rapper some mad feedback when he was here on tour last - wisdom on the game that S.O.X. is planning to incorporate into some visuals later down the track.

For now, the rapper's focus lies with a project entitled Hustle x Flow, that sees his Perth music crew GRAVY and CHU. guesting, and some co-production from Teddy Walton, the talent behind A$AP Rocky & Schoolboy Q's hit Electric Body. Today, Pilerats are excited to give you one of the first glimpses into that project, by way of track Parlay. 'Parllay' is code for hanging out and chilling - although with so much happening in his career we'd be surprised if S.O.X. really had any time for chilling!

S.O.X. showcases his white-hot rhyming ability in Parlay, dipping into impressive moments of rapid flow. For the beat, S.O.X. puts Fremantle jazz guitarist-turned-beatmaker CHU in charge. And take charge CHU. does - producing a dazzling beat that, whilst more vigorous than his soulful, spaced-out solo work, is every bit as cosmic.

There's a reason we put S.O.X. on our list of fresh rap talents moving the Australian music scene forward right now, and it's tracks like this: Parlay brims with energy, personality and assurance, and wouldn't sound out of place in a playlist between Vince Staples and Remi. If you're looking for a decent rap to parlay (like this all day!) to, you best be looking up your boy S.O.X.
