By now everyone should know that the only thing that matches the prolific output of King Gizz is their sheer versatility as a band. They’ve previously flitted with everything from Kraut-rock to psychedelic pop to garage rock to jazzy experimental journeys in the blink of an eye, and the new album looks to be no different. With a focus on acoustic instruments this time around (“Acoustic guitars, flute, double bass, fiddle, harmonica, drum kit, clarinet. Whatever we could find really.”), Paper Mâché Dream Balloon has already impressed with its eponymous lead single, and the same holds true with the second taste, Trapdoor. The woodwind backbone and retro pop vocal delivery create some pretty spooky (in an awesome Scooby Doo sort of way) soundscapes to explore our fears of what’s hiding in the dark.

Paper Mâché Dream Balloon is out November 13.
