You must have been living under quite the rock if you haven’t yet heard the heavyweight collaboration between UK’s Disclosure (Howard & Guy Lawrence) and New Zealand native Lorde (Ella Yelich-O'Connor). A ream of artists have stepped up to the remix plate for the new album Caracal, including A-Trak, Claude VonStroke, Claptone, Jonas Rathsman, Dillon Francis and Australia’s own Motez. Not surprisingly, the most intriguing edit thus far is from one of London’s most revered producers, Jon Hopkins.
Hopkins was obviously on a mission of complete remodeling, transforming the track into a euphoric 7-minute soundscape. A rolling crescendo of wailing vocal cries, shuffling drum combinations and digital scales collide forming a piece that packs a real punch. It’s funny because whenever Jon tackles a remix, you’re never quite sure what the result's going to sound like, but you know it’s going to leave you wide-eared, if that’s such a thing…?
